Bling It On! With Hpnotiq: Submit Your Glammest Makeup To Win A Beauty Gift Certificate

I'm really excited to be back with this exciting promotion that Hpnotiq is running!* You know I love all things GLAM and the third round of this campaign is focused on glamorous makeup! Today I'm going to focus on the popular, but seemingly elusive, smokey eye! I'm going to share my tips and tricks to master this desired look!

I never ever use the compacts that come with shadows specifically designed for each section of the smokey eye. I really feel that they never get it quite right. I may use some shadows from a couple of those compacts, but I've found that I'm most successful at achieving a smokey eye if I mix and match different shadows in my makeup bag until it works! Here's my steps:

1. Pick a light color that is just a bit lighter than your skin color but maybe has some sheen to it. Sweep that all over from eyebrow to lash line. Don't go with anything too white or yellow. Stick with skin tones.
2. I like to do a mix of brown and black for smokey eyes, so sweep a medium brown all over the lid. Start heavy on the outside and lighten the pressure as you go in towards your nose so that it fades out in an ombre effect.
3. I do my eyeliner at this point. I don't do it first because some of the shadow covers it up! But don't do it last or it's too harsh. Take black cream eyeliner and apply it to top and bottom, starting on the outside and fading to a point about half-way across your lid. Don't do the entire lid! It makes your eyes look smaller and won't blend as well with this look.
4. Take a really dark brown (one that shows up dark and will last) and blot it over the liner. This softens up the lines and helps blend. Then use this shadow and sweep a sort of triangle from the outside point, down to lash line, and up to crease. Only go over about 1/4 of the lid towards your nose. Also sweep some over the lower lash line eyeliner.
5. Top off with some lengthening and separating mascara and you're done!

(Sometimes I'll switch out the mid-tone brown for a dark purple or green to make it colorful. Or I'll use a black shadow for the final dark color to really make it bold.)

So there you have it! A natural but sexy smokey eye in 5 easy steps! Now, all you have to do is share a photo of your fab makeup and you have chances to win awesome prizes!!
