UK Basketball New Jerseys

The idea for this post was giving to me by my good friend Dan!! Thanks Danny for sending me the pic! :)

I know it's the start of college FOOTBALL season, but I'm not a big college football fan. Sorry not sorry! (I'm about PRO football... WHODEY!)

So, even though everyone is buzzing about football today.. I'm here to talk college basketball! The heart of this wonderful city of Lexington!

A few days ago UK gave a sneak peak of their new basketball uniforms. EEK! This just gets me excited that basketball season will be here before we know it! Here are my thoughts..

I saw one version that had UK on the chest instead of KENTUCKY. I am NOT OK with that and hope that was just a mock up. The chest needs to always have KENTUCKY on it.

I love how they have been fading images into the back for the past few years. It adds a surprise element that you can't really see all the time but it's there. This one is pretty cool except, the wildcat kind of looks like a resting kitten... not very fierce.

Loving the shorts with the checkerboard pattern. It adds a fun new flair to them. Hopefully they are cut better than the last uniforms that were WAY too wide and made these slim athletes look box-y. It's hard to make those bodies look bad but they did. So, hoping they re-worked the fit.

Love the KY state badge on the shorts. Again, love these sneaky little elements that aren't seen right away but just add to the respect of the UK Basketball tradition.

Can't wait to see my CATS on the court in their new swag!!

Side note: Did anyone notice the legs in this photo? They are totally doing the starlet-on-the-red-carpet leg cross! Is that a Kardashian??

Have a great weekend and next week! I'll be soaking up the sun but no don't worry, I have some FAB guest posts lined up that you seriously DON'T want to miss!

A Pop of Color

Something about new throw pillows really just makes me happy. Even though I know guests will drool sleep on them, the dogs will shed on them and scratch them, and they will never stay perfectly new, I just love the added pop of color and mixing patterns!

We got a couple new pillows and finally found a big art piece for the huge living room wall that we've been looking for. The walls are still white which makes it look bland, but once we paint it will all come together. But, thought I would share the progress so far!

Now the big question: Do you like the picture hung vertical (above) or horizontal (below)???

I've had Tim change it about 10 times. I can't decide if I like the horizontal or vertical stripes better!!! What do you think?? Maybe I'll change it every other month. Just a rebel like that. ;)

Happy Hump Day!

2013 Athletic Wear Trends

This article was published in PHENOM, The Magazine for Volleyball Players, an AVCA publication.

Some may be brave enough to say that the latest trends in women’s athletic wear are inspired by fashion’s awkward teenage years: the 80’s. But if any clothing segment can put a modern spin on neon and electric patterns, and make them look cool, athletic wear has done it. Here are some of this year’s trends that may not make you run faster or jump higher, but they will certainly make you the best dressed at the gym.

Bright Colors

The 80’s and early 90’s come back in full force with a bold color pallet that has swept the nation. Walk into any athletic store and you’re hit with neon yellows, blaze oranges, hot pinks and electric blues. From sports bras to running shoes, the brighter the better! Don’t be afraid to mix and match. There’s nothing wrong with pairing a highlighter hue zip-up jacket with lime and hot pink sneakers.
Bold prints are also big this year. From abstract designs to animal prints, anything eye catching and bright will do the trick. Just remember to even it out. If you’re sporting an over the top pattern on your leggings, tone it down with a navy or dark purple athletic tank.

Street Style

Another recent trend is the crossover of athletic wear into your everyday wardrobe. These pieces can be worn to lunch or shopping before or after your daily workout. Look for more neutral street-style pieces that add some interest and structure to your already casual outfit. This usually takes the form of a lightweight outerwear jacket, long-sleeved shirt, or slouchy sweater. This style is not only versatile, but allows you to look chic while being comfortable. Try this look when going to class before a workout, or just while running errands around town. You can even throw in a bag that’s both sporty and stylish to complete the look.

Unique Details

The best part about trends is that you can take risks and put your own personal style spin on them! Unique details or shapes are popping up in athletic wear. Finding a piece with cut-outs or an interesting neckline can take your ordinary gym look to the next level. Don’t leave these attention-grabbing details for just your formal clothing items. Bring some fun accents to your work out gear that can take any casual outfit from drab to fabulous!

When you feel good about how you look, you’ll be more motivated to head to the gym, or practice, and give it your all. So use some of today’s hottest athletic trends to enhance your personal style and let yourself stand out!

Say Hello to Bear!

Say hello to the newest addition to the family! His name is Bear and he's a 1.5 year old Rottweiler. He's also a big ole' baby and cuddle bug.

We went to the Humane Society on Friday with Tim's "little brother" (through Big Brothers/Big Sisters) to let him play with the puppies. We've been looking for our next dog and were thinking along the lines of Shepherd, Husky, Doberman, etc. I checked the society's website frequently and didn't see anything that fit what we were looking for. Well when we came across this big guy, it was love at first sight.

He wasn't on the website yet since they had just gotten him. Tim and I knew he would be snatched up quickly so we put him on hold and came back in the morning with Piper for a meet and greet. He is SO playful and happy and goofy. He was intimidating for about 2.3 seconds and then you realize he's a big softy. He and Piper hit if off right away so we made it official!

On the car ride home. Already bonding with Dad!

"Oh crap. We just got another dog."

Hey there, slobbery boy.

Rotty butt. Apparently he thinks he can fit under the bed. He can't.

We can't wait to get to know this big guy. He's already been such a joy and I'm so glad we could give him his forever home! Once he gets acclimated we will enroll him in obedience school like we did with Piper. He isn't quite aware of how large he is so some training will be helpful.

And Piper is SO pumped to have a big brother to annoy and play with outside. Exciting times!
