I'm so excited to announce Kaliwood Kontributors Week! This is a new series that I will host four times a year. It will be 5 days of bloggers (and non-bloggers) I recruit to talk candidly about something they have experienced that the rest of us can relate to! I have some very smart, talented friends and fellow bloggers and I always love to pick their brains! So I'm trilled to host an entire week where we can discuss 5 different topics and learn from each other.
The first Kaliwood Kontributors Week is going to be October 7-11, just a couple weeks away! I already have 5 incredible writers lined up! Here is the schedule:

Oct 10: Amanda G's Topic: Planning a wedding, lessions learned along the way

With my new job, I recently had to fill out a little "About Me" questionnaire that is going to be published in the employee newsletter. And since we have a lot of new faces in Kaliwood lately, I thought I'd share with you all! So here's a little bit more about me! And if you make it to the end.. the giveaway winner is announced! Have a great Tuesday! Favorite city ever visited?
Munich, Germany. The history there is astounding and Oktoberfest was
fun! Close seconds would be Rome, Italy and Versailles, France. There is
nothing quite like seeing the Coliseum and the Palace of Versailles in person.
They are unbelievable.
Who is the biggest influence on your life?
My parents. My father always pushes me to be the best I can be and to go
after my dreams. My mother is a great model of a strong, independent woman who
love and supports those around her.
If you wrote a book, what would it be about?
If I wrote a book, it would probably be about empowering females in the
workplace. I would hope to encourage them to achieve their career goals without
letting societal expectations hold them back.
What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
I have an addiction to queso dip. I could probably eat it every day. The
best queso dips in town: Shamrocks, Cheapside, and The Cellar.
Tell us about your pet(s)?
We have 4 pets. I think that officially makes us animal hoarders. We
have two fat orange cats, Oliver Senior and Oliver Junior. Ollie (senior) is
the most laid back cat you’ll ever meet. You can toss him around and he doesn’t
care. Junior is sassy and paranoid, always hiding somewhere. We also have a miniature
pinscher/german shepherd mix named Piper and just recently adopted a 72 pound
Rottweiler named Bear. Piper is spunky and full of energy. Bear is a big baby
and loves to cuddle. All of our pets are rescues!
Favorite TV shows?
Runway, Homeland, Real Housewives of OC, Shark Tank, The Big Bang Theory, X
Factor, What Not To Wear, Chelsea Lately, Walking Dead, Criminal Minds, and
anything on HGTV.
What drew you to meeting planning?
I was an intern at the AVCA in the
Fall of 2009 as a senior in college. In December, the AVCA brought me along to their
Annual Convention in Tampa. When I saw over 2,000 attendees wandering around
the convention center and over 100 booths in the exhibit hall, I was hooked. I’ve
been planning ever since!
Basketball shoes squeaking on a gym floor.
What was the best Christmas present you ever received?
A basketball hoop that was set up in the driveway with a big bow on it.
Favorite ice cream?
Vanilla. Or rainbow sherbet.
Congrats to our September Group Giveaway Winner, Elena!
Hello residents of Kaliwood! Today I am joined by some fellow bloggers to bring to you a group giveaway! Check out the fab-tastic ladies below and their generous prizes! Then use the giveaway widget at the bottom to gain entries! Thanks in advance for showing these ladies some love!
The Art of Balance is a place for me to share my story of living happily in spite of having anxiety. I want to encourage and inspire others share their experiences with anxiety but also to actively create their own happiness. I truly feel my life has been enriched by having anxiety because I've learned so much about myself and what really matters in life. We can touch on some pretty serious topics on The Art of Balance but I think humor is a crucial part of life so there is a lot of fun happening on the blog too! I also blog about healthy living, my love of dogs, life in the Mitten, and other randomness.
My name is Lauren! I am a born and raised JERSEY girl-next-door and crazy cat lady. Blogging for me acts as a short escape from the daily grind we call life and an outlet for documenting my crazy scatter-brain. Come read along with me as I blog about everything from Applebee's to my cat obsession and random things I wonder at any given moment during the day.
Kakers in Wonderland is a reality of day drinking or medicating for a chronic nerve pain disease. I document my Hollywood adventures to my local grocery store famously known as the "Rock N Roll Ralph's" Where you'll see the likes of the beautiful Kevin Smith in his glorious hockey jerseys. Currently working at hitRECord, I stalk my adorable boss so you ladies have something to swoon over. Other than that my blog is just as normal as everyone else's except it smells like vodka and bacon. I rant and rave depending on the subject and I keep it classy cause I'm from San Diego. So stop by and remember kids when you fall down the rabbit hole keep your arms tucked in for better landing.
About Vegetarian in the Ville: I'm out to prove you can be a vegetarian AND an athlete! My blog is mostly about my triathlon and general road race training with a little bit of food and life lessons mixed in. You'll also see the not so occasional pictures of my pets :)
6 tubes (3 fruit punch and 3 orange soda flavored) ofZipfizz, an energy drink mix powder.

Please take a moment to go visit these ladies. They are all GREAT and will give you some fabulous reading material! Details on how to enter the giveaway are below. Good luck!
OK so I meant to announce this last week, but with the nature of what's going on, I was crazy busy!
So the big news is that I have accepted a new job!! This is my first week as the Meeting Planner and Event Manager for a trade association here in Lexington. I am so excited to take this next step in my career. I will be planning and executing their 3 main events each year and planning their regional events (but not traveling to them.)
My upcoming events are in Fort Lauderdale, New Orleans, San Antonio, and Indian Hills, CA! I also get to start picking the cities as well as the venue. So, I'm extremely excited! Many people who travel for work say they are sick of hotels and that once you've seen one you've seen them all. But it's my job to compare hotels and choose the perfect one for our events. I LOVE staying in new hotels and for some reason it doesn't get old for me! So this is the perfect fit.
The staff seems really great too, which was a huge factor for my decision. I'm leaving a small staff that has been such a great support system and collaborative team, that I wanted to make sure I was headed somewhere with a similar environment. It seems like I've made the right choice! Can't wait to get started!
With that all being said, I will dearly miss my AVCA staff. I was lucky to have the BEST bosses a newbie out of college could ask for. I've learned invaluable lessons, both personally and professionally, from those around me and I will always be grateful. I'm so happy I can call each and every person at the AVCA, and the overall AI family, a friend.
Here's some memories of the last day...
AVCA staff minus our fearless leader and Ash!
An empty Inbox. Don't think I've seen that ever.
A note I left my dear cube-mate, Kate. Thought it was appropriate to write it on the Shoe of the Day!
And it wouldn't quite be complete without one last AVCA video....
I have some exciting news to share with you all a little later this week. Because of this news, I'm ridiculously busy at the moment so trying to squeeze in some time to blog about it! (Mom, if you're reading this, NO I'm not engaged... stop asking!!)
Without further ado, here are some pics from our vacation!!
I know this picture is blurry but had to share because one night we got to go down to the beach and free baby sea turtles!!! First of all let me tell you how much I love sea turtles. I'm obsessed. These little guys had just hatched and a group of us went down with buckets full of them and got to pick up the little babies and put them onto the beach and watch them waddle their way into the ocean. We weren't allowed to take pictures and it was really dark out anyways so I couldn't capture the moment. But it way definitely one of the coolest things I've ever done!! My friend, Tiffany, got a picture with the little guys the day before, so here's what they look like...
Adorable right??? The whole time we were setting them free we kept yelling RIGHTEOUS! RIGHTEOUS! Yes, we are childish. #FindingNemoFoLife
Biggest. Grasshopper. Ever.
(And you all know that is NOT my arm. Duh. I was nowhere near that thing.)
View from our window...
I rocked the lazy wavy hair pretty much all week.
Mimosa.. my drink of choice for most of the week.
Lots of lizards!
Paradise at night..
Before one of the dinners
It was amazing and relaxing! And all-inclusive is always the way to go!We stayed at the Fiesta Americana Condesa and I would definitely recommend it!
But it was also great to get home to our pups. Bear and Piper were ecstatic to see us (and each other) and I missed them all week!
I hope you all are ready for this one. I finally convinced the one and only Tim to write a guest post for me. Now, I know you all are use to seeing blogger boyfriends post about how adorable and creative their girlfriend is. Well, Tim is dry, sarcastic, and hilarious. Hope you can handle it! :) Enjoy....
10 Things Women Should Know About Football Season.. From Men
1. Nobody cares that you picked who’s going to win or your favorite team because of their colors or mascot.
This is something your 85 year old secretary at work does because she raised 10 kids and was always cooking or cleaning. Times have changed and women are more involved in sports than ever before. Take the time to do some research and find a team that you like.
2. Don’t wear a pink jersey to look cute on game day.
Watching football isn’t about being cute and trying to make all the other women in the room jealous that you have a “stylish” Steelers jersey. To everyone else you look like you’re trying way too hard and don’t really care about the game.
3. We all know that Michael Vick is an asshole because he fought and killed dogs.
This happened six years ago and Vick has served his time in prison. Since getting out Vick has volunteered in his community and hasn’t been in trouble with the law. No one is going to agree with what he did but bringing it up every time the Eagles play is getting tiresome…which brings me to number 4.
4. Everyone knows Aaron Hernandez is in jail awaiting trial for murder.
This topic has been discussed and written about at great lengths since his arrest. Don’t think you’re bringing breaking news to the table by bringing it up Week 1. ESPN has ran it into the ground almost as much as their daily coverage of Tim Tebow’s bowel movements. Try to limit Hernandez talk to any new developments during the season.
5. If you’re watching the game pay attention to what’s going on.
Nothing is more annoying than watching a game with someone’s wife or girlfriend and hearing them ask who has the ball, what just happened, or what the score is. My girlfriend’s mom is notorious for this and we constantly have to pause, rewind, or explain the last play. I’ve contemplated suicide during several of these instances.
6. Nobody cares how hot Tom Brady is or how great the players look in their uniforms.
Save these discussions for times when you’re with your friends and no heterosexual males are around. The last thing guys want to hear during the review of a game winning TD is “OMG whose butt is that near the bottom of the pile? It’s amazing!!!”
7. Don’t ask if the game can be changed to Too Cute Puppies during commercials.
During the fall weekends are for football and there is always another game on another channel. A commercial is the perfect time to switch to the other game and see how bad the Bears are getting their asses kicked by the Packers. It’s not the time to watch Sandy, the Labradoodle mom, teach her puppy Flower how to swim.
8. Don’t have your boyfriend draft your fantasy football team and then get mad when you don’t win.
Listen ladies your husband/boyfriend is probably in at least three fantasy football leagues of his own. Being in multiple leagues is a full time commitment and the last thing he wants to do is manage your team too. Sure you sound really cool saying you play fantasy football but when you don’t know anything about your team your street cred goes right out the window. I’m all for women being in fantasy sports but you need to know enough to manage your own team.
9. We can all form our own opinions about the cheerleaders.
Every guy likes it when the game cuts to the cheerleaders. I think we can all agree that while there are always a few good looking ones there are also ones that look like they’re coming off a meth high. Hearing you rip on them for being trashy skanks with several STD’s makes you sound like the girl that got cut from the cheerleading squad.
10. Finally, don’t hate on your guys team just to do it.
If you’re a casual fan with no allegiance to a team don’t talk about how bad your guy’s team is because you have no argument to back it up. If you’re a Bengals fan and your boyfriend is a Steelers fan then feel free to let him know how bad they are and how creepy, aka “rapey”, Ben Roethlisberger is.
Today, I'm really excited to be sharing the perfect dessert recipe for these last few days of summer. It's close to the end of the peak season for raspberries, so before they're out of season for the year, I wanted to make one last delicious treat that would really amplify their flavor. This raspberry shortcake parfait really got the job done, and the best part is that it's so easy to make!
Printable Recipe Makes 4 parfaits ingredients:
1 pkg (3.4 oz) vanilla instant pudding
2 cups cold milk
10 Golden Oreo cookies
2 pints raspberries
1/4 cup Cool Whip, thawed
In a large bowl, whisk the pudding mix and milk for 2 minutes, until thickened.
Use a knife to finely chop the cookies.
Add a layer of cookies to the bottom of a glass.
Add a layer of pudding...
...and then a layer of raspberries.
Repeat each layer, then top with Cool Whip and additional cookie crumbs.
