My Absolute Favorite Versions of My Absolute Favorite Christmas Songs

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Sam Smith takes this one. He is my new favorite and may be one of my all-time favorites from this day forward. He can do no wrong. This wasn't even one of my favorite Christmas songs until I heard his magical voice sing it.

This Christmas

I've always liked this song for having a modern, upbeat tone.
But when I heard Chris Brown sing it with his smooth R&B swag.. swoon. Give it a listen.

A Couple Things Before Christmas...

Before we break for the holidays to spend time with our friends and family and crazy relatives (come on.. we all have them), I just wanted to stop by and say hello! And share a few things!

1. Kentucky Basketball

I'm sure you know I bleed blue. Have done so since the womb. Big Blue Nation just released this Happy Holidays video. I love how chilling and creative it is. And I love that it pretty much says, bring it. Because we will demolish you. :)

Commit To Fit Update 12/18

It's our last week of the Commit to Fit challenge! For some reason I didn't realize it was only 3 weeks so man it flew by! Below is a little recap of how I did and thoughts moving forward.

Week 1 Goal: Get to 15k steps 3 days during the week.

Since I was at the meeting, I couldn't do actual workouts. But I walked a lot! I only went over 15k once, so I didn't rack up too many points that week.

We get scored on the following point scale:
  • Meet 100% of your goal – 5 points (per week)
  • Meet 50%-99% of your goal – 3 points (per week)
  • Less than 50% of goal – 1 point (per week)

Week 2 Goal: Do a gym workout at least 3 days during the week.

2014 Annual Meeting ~ Indian Wells, California

And just like that, another meeting under my belt! That makes 4 with my company! This one went swimmingly and we got great feedback all around. Which always gives me the push to continue to produce great events! Here's a little photo recap of the week in Indian Wells, California!

United State of Pop 2014

Just a little video for your Saturday. I heard this the other day on my morning talk show and I was totally impressed. Maybe I'm late to the DJ Earthworm party, but I hadn't seen this before.

It's so well done and what a great way to wrap up the musical moments from 2014!

Have a great weekend! We are headed to Louisville for my friend, Dana's wedding!!

The Elusive Motivation

I would consider myself a pretty motivated person. I've always worked hard to do well in school, work, athletics, etc. Which is why it's so interesting to me that motivation can be something so hard to maintain. When it comes to fitness and health, my motivation seems to come and go in waves. Almost daily.

I admire those people who have, for years, been waking up, lacing up their shoes, and hitting the pavement or the gym. Like it's nothing. Like it's brushing their teeth or getting dressed.

Why does it come so easily to some but yet it's a constant struggle for (many) others?

The daily swing is what blows my mind the most. At 2pm I can be sitting at my desk feeling completely motivated. I'm ready to work out! I'm going over gym plans or running routes in my head. I'm cooking up a healthy meal in my mind and determined to skip anything sweet!

Then 5:00 hits. I drive home for 20 minutes. I walk in the door and the motivation is gone. Just disappeared. It might as well have been a unicorn riding a flying pig.

And then I realize I need to vacuum, and do laundry, and go through all those boxes sitting out in the living room. Oh and when was the last time the toilets were cleaned?

Commit To Fit Update

Hey strangers. I'm finally back from the Thanksgiving long weekend AND our Palm Springs event. PHEW. What a couple weeks it was. I'll be back later this week with an event recap.. it went really well!

But today we are back on the fitness topic. My company started a wellness program last month and my personal trainer friend, Rennay, launched a Commit To Fit challenge this month. So, fitness has been on the mind everywhere I go. Which is good!

However, Thanksgiving in West Virginia, and then a week at our event left little room to work out. And little room to eat healthy, to be honest.

Last week was the first week of the challenge and since I had no time to work out (we literally work from about 7am to 10pm), we decided my goal could be to walk 15,000 steps four times that week. 15k was a random number we came up with and it turns out it was a bit high for my everyday at the event. BUT, I did beat it on our busiest day!

Four Fun Facts

Just a heads up that you're probably going to experience a lot of radio silence in KALIWOOD for the next couple weeks. Thanksgiving in WV until Sunday then hop on a plane Monday morning for Palm Springs (annual meeting!) for a week. It's quite the whirlwind. So, blogging will take a hit. But, as I always say, I'd rather be out living my life than writing about it. If I have the choice.

Rennay over at Veg in the Ville tagged me in this 4 Fun Facts post! So, let's knock it out, shall we?

And don't forget to enter the Commit To Fit Challenge! It starts next week!

4 Fun Facts

Four names that people call me other than my real name

  1. Kay (Because my name is pronounced 'kay-lee', NOT 'callie')
  2. Babe (By Tim... ewwww.)
  3. K-dawg (because I have serious street cred.)
  4. Kaylin (still a few left who call me my real name.)

Tim Tuesdays

Every time someone says "cute dog!" to us Tim says "its a cat." And when people ask what type of dog Piper is he always says something random like "Dalmatian" or "mountain lion" with a dead serious face. Poor people are so confused.

Me: "It's so weird that you like ugly dogs."
Tim: "I have the same taste in women."

Lennox is growing! As puppies do, I suppose. She's almost 4 months I think. (Honestly I have a hard time keeping track. How do mothers always know that their child is "76 days and 4 hours" old. I'm like hmm... I think a few months or so at least?!

She's almost Piper's size! But still super floppy like puppies are. Which I think is the best thing about them. She also still have the soft, fuzzy fur and smells like a pup. She's SUCH a quick learner. She had sit, shake, and lay down all covered in less than 5 minutes each. We need to set aside more time to dedicate to training, because she's a great student.

F-Bombs for Feminism. Like... Actual F Bombs.

I saw the title in this video and had to watch it.

If you've been here a while you know I've talked about not being afraid to drop the F bomb.

This talks about the F bomb whilst dropping F bombs.

At first I was taken aback. You don't hear kids saying that word every day.

But then I got the point. It's attention-grabbing. It helps get the point across.

We've tried a billion things. Why not this?

And I laughed out loud a couple times.

OK a lot of times.

It's pretty f-ing funny.

But not at work.

Or at work if you have headphones on.

Let me know what you think.

Commit To Fit Challenge

My dear friend (in real life), Rennay, blogs over at Vegetarian in the Ville. If you love fitness advice, race training recaps, and/or witty humor, Rennay is your girl.

She just became a certified personal trainer and started her own company! (You go girl.) So, naturally, I hammer her for free advice constantly.

A few examples of texts Rennay could receive from me at any point in time:
"If I do laps in the pool with a kickboard does that still count as a workout?"
"I've been on the elliptical for 30 minutes and my toes are now numb."
"How to I make my calves not so huge?"
"How much Pepto can you give a dog?"  - Did I mention she use to be a vet tech too?

Wealth of knowledge, that one.

Tim Tuesdays

Tim: "Who is driving tonight?"
Me: "We could take a cab."
Tim: "Haven't you learned anything from Sex & the City? No cabs available on New Years Eve!"

Me: "Give the pups a pet for me!"
Tim: "Pipe smells like fritos.
Me: "Why??"
Tim: "That's her natural smell."

Me: "I just walked into a tree."
Tim: "No, it grew in your way."

I asked Tim to get me sour skittles. He came out with all of this.
Apparently they didn't have them and he wanted to make sure he was covered.

Me: "I'm weak in the morning"
Tim: "You're like little mario in the morning then you find the mushroom at lunch."

Me: "Kourtney Kardashian had her baby."
Tim: "A girl, I saw. Don't come to me with that outdated shit."

The First 336 Hours

As most of you know, we recently rescued a puppy. Something I said I would never do after adopting two (almost) adult dogs and knowing they were trouble enough. But alas, I had a moment of weakness and now Lennox brings our dog total to 3.

After bringing three rescues into our lives, I've found something to be consistently true. And I'm going to be 100% honest in admitting this, even though it doesn't paint me in the best light.

There has been a point with each dog, within the first two week, that I thought we made a huge mistake and I wished we hadn't brought them home.

There, I said it. I'm a bad fur mom. But it's the truth.

Piper was young and hyper and whined for several nights. She also went through a fierce chewing phase that seemed like it would never end.

Tim Tuesdays

Me: "How was your cookout at work?"
Tim: "My paper plates were a big hit. Everybody took one."

Text from Tim: "Just got I.D.'d for a rated R movie....again."

Text from Tim: "Full disclosure, I ate 8 cookies in one sitting last night."

Hot Mix, my fish, died today after a week.....Just got a call from Tim.
Me: Hello?
Tim: (in a slow creepy voice) This is Hot Mix calling you from my watery graveeeee.
Me: Too soon dude.

Watching the Golden Globes...
Tim: There's so many good movies that we will never see.
Me: Eh. I really just prefer the more mainstream movies.
Tim: Yea. Like Clueless. And Clueless Goes to College.

Me: I want a milkshake.
Tim: So you can bring all the boys to the yard?

Pre-Planning Visit ~ Tahoe

We will be having our 2015 Summer Meeting at the Hyaty Regency Lake Tahoe. Since this event was contracted before I started with the company, I haven't seen the property. Which, as you may gather, is troublesome considering I'm the one planning the entire event.

So for the handful of events that were contracted BK (before Kali), I've been making quick trips to the destinations to tour the resorts, map out our space, and make any necessary changes.

I flew directly from Phoenix to Reno for a quick one-day trip. From Reno I was driven about an hour, up a mountain, and then back down, to get to Incline Village, NV.

Like I mentioned in my Phoenix/Scottsdale post, I was in awe of a totally new landscape. Where Arizona was desert and mountains, Tahoe was pine trees and mountains. Pine trees as tall as sky scrapers. All around you. It was a sight to see.

I'm kicking myself for not stopping on the way down the mountain. As soon as the trees opened up and I got the first glimpse of the Lake, it literally took my breath away.

Site Visit ~ Phoenix & Scottsdale

I've never been to the great state of Arizona so I was excited to travel to Phoenix/Scottsdale and see what these cities were all about.

It's funny. I've traveled all over Europe and even to many cities in the US, but lately I've been going places with landscapes that are totally new to me. I recently went to Palm Springs and the whole mountain/desert/oasis set up was really fascinating for this born and raised Kentucky girl.

And then I got to Phoenix/Scottsdale and it was so full of cacti (cactuses?), palm trees, and mountains. I was digging it. I quickly learned which mountain was named "Camelback" and I made it my goal to locate him during every car ride.

I was there scoping out the property we will use for our 2016 December meeting. I toured 3 resorts in Scottsdale and 2 in Phoenix (all hotels will remain anonymous).

Here's some shots from the tours...

 Great open air lobby design.

Too Much of A Good Thing

Talk about first world problems.. our DVR is about to burst at the seams. Like my jeans after Thanksgiving meals.

And then you put football season on top of it and it's a cat fight everyday.

Me: Alright, let's knock out some of these shows.
Tim: It's Thursday. Football
Me: Shit. Thursday already?

Me: Alright, let's knock out some of these shows.
Tim: It's (Saturday, Sunday, Monday).
Me: Curse you, football!!!!!

I need to take a day off work just to catch up on my shows. The struggle is real, my friends.

So here's our line up. And my two cents.

Billboard Chart Toppers - Calling It

As much as I hate paying a monthly subscription (for just about anything), I have to admit that keeping SiriusXM radio alive and kicking in my car has been pretty fun. Maybe it's just me but I'm almost positive songs are played on SiriusXM for a good amount of time before they hit regular radio.

I know this because Tim will randomly say oh this new song is good... and I'm like pshh please I've been jamming to that for weeks! (Read: he doesn't have Sirius.)

I love feeling like I'm one of the "special ones" who gets to hear the up and coming songs before they make their way up the charts.

I also feel that I have a knack for knowing which of these songs are going to swim around the mid-30s/40s of the Billboard Top 100 and which ones are about to skyrocket to the top.

For example, I was listening to a morning show on the way to work one day and one of the hosts was going on and on about a new song he'd heard called "All About That Bass" and how he was convinced it was going to be #1. So he played it for his co-hosts and listeners, many of whom were hearing it for the first time.

Well I promptly tweeted said host, informing him that I had made that call weeks earlier.

September Workout Results

Yikes, I'm a bit late on this one! Considering it's mid October. But in my defense, how the HAM is it mid-October? Like, seriously.

Here's a reminder of my September goals:
Runs: 11
Strength: 8

And here's what actually happened...

Runs: 9
Strength: 3

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

So I'm really really good about saying no to the idea of any more dogs. As you probably know, we adopted Bear and Piper last year and they are my babies. Even so, Tim has been hounding me about another one for a few months now and I've always told him we are not getting another until one of ours "moves on."

Then one day I was doped up on cold medicine. Like floating high in the sky from Dayquil masking the symptoms of death I was experiencing. And we were at Petsmart picking up our pups from getting bathed. And there was a humane society there from a neighboring city. And they had German Shepherd pups up for adoption. And I walked by and shook my head like I normally do.

But somehow, and I can't quite remember how because, again, I was in a vulnerable position, a puppy ended up out of its crate playing with our dogs. And then we were filling out forms to foster her for two weeks. And then she was on Tim's lap in the car. And then she was peeing on my floor at the house.

So, alas, here we are. I said I would never have a puppy. I said I would never have a third dog. Maybe I should be a politician?

Say hello to Lennox. AKA Lennie.

Am I The Only One?

Am I the only one who doesn't think Bruce Jenner is trying to become a woman?

Yes, he has long hair and ear piercings. But, that hardly makes you a woman. Am I missing something?

Am I the only one who doesn't like pumpkin spice anything?

Am I the only one who would rather buy clothes or a night out than seasonal decorations?

I'm OK that my house doesn't scream fall. I don't want to store that shit once fall is over.

Things I NEVER Thought I'd Say

Hello, you fine creature, you. No, I'm not just talking about the fabulous day that is Friday. Glad you stopped in for a little slice of KALIWOOD before you get the ham out of your office and go tackle the weekend!

Before & After: Master Bedroom

Happy October!

I'm finally getting around to sharing the before and after of our master bedroom! The start was bad cream carpet and a hodge-podge of furniture.

Tim and I quickly got to work pulling up the old carpet.

This is a process I never thought I would do, but it's actually quite simple and quick. We did it in the town house before we moved so I knew it would be easy. Just cut 4 feet wide strips with razor blade, and roll up!

Movie Releases ~ From Book to Big Screen

Nothing gives me quite that feeling of excitement like watching TV and seeing a movie trailer pop up. I love movie trailers. I love the idea that something new is coming out and hoping it's a story that interests me. (Unless it's for a horror film, then I curse the screen and change the channel.)

What's even better is the feeling where you think "Wait.. that looks familiar." And then you realize it's a book you just read! And you do your happy dance. Because the characters you just journeyed with in your head are about to hit the big screen.

Here are the book-to-movies I have recently seen or am about to see in the coming months.. with my thoughts/reviews!

1. Maze Runner - September 19, 2014

I have to admit I haven't read this one. It's the only one on my list I haven't read! But honestly I didn't know anything about it until the previews started popping up. Tim really wants to see it so I'll probably just see it and not read it. I'm a bit hesitant about all of these dystopian novels that are all the rage now, though. The Hunger Games was so good, and I find that I compare all of the others to it. None of them have topped it yet. Book or film.

Emma Watson: I'm a Feminist

I knew I always liked Emma Watson. What a baller.

Watch this:

She starts off by explaining the definition of Feminism and how it's meaning has become so incredibly skewed in today's society.

"I decided that I was a Feminist. And this seemed uncomplicated to me." - Emma Watson

As it should. I wrote a post about this not too long ago. And so did The Bloggess. Read mine hereread hers here. I've actually seen several bloggers come forward and address this topic.

She goes on from there...

Clover Quatrefoil

The Real Housewives of Orange County is one of my (many) guilty pleasure shows. And I'm sad this season is over! Even though my girl, Heather, was a huge biotch to the new girl Shannon and made her look like a crazy person even though she's not!

But that's neither here nor there.

During the entire season Shannon wore this certain type of jewelry that I loved! These earrings and necklace would pop up in her interview sections all the time and I kept trying to figure out what they were or who made them!

Dog Park Drama

We went to the dog park the other day. Now that the weather has cooled down, it's the perfect time to get the pups out there for some exercise and socialization. Also, what dog lover doesn't get excited to see all the different pups there? Tim and I always try to guess the different breeds we see.

We really know how to have a good time.

When we first arrived, we immediately noticed another Rottweiler. They aren't terribly common so we usually spot them quickly. This one looked like a beast, so we were eager to see him next to Bear to compare.

We got Bear when he was already full grown. But he's only about 75 pounds. Which is pretty small for a Rottie. (They typically get over 100).

The owner of the other one started chatting us up and told us his weighed 145 pounds! I was dumbfounded. That's more than my boss's HUGE great dane. He made Bear look like a Pomeranian.

Anyway.. the dog park fun commenced and all was well. Until I turned to look for Bear and saw a fluffy over-sized dog humping Bear. And not your typical doggy-style humping. This dog was humping Bear's HEAD.

The Best Version of You

You might remember this post I wrote a couple weeks ago about relationships. I started off by saying how surprised I am with all of the things I am learning about myself and about dating in my current relationship.

I'm sure a lot of it has to do with age. We are in our mid-late 20s, so we are reaching our highest maturity level. Also, we live together, so that in and of itself is always eye-opening.

So today I'm here to talk about my newest discovery. And that is making an effort to be your best self for your significant other and for the success of your relationship.

It may not come as a surprise to some of you, but I like to think I'm right in most situations. Arguments or disagreements are always focused on what the other person is doing wrong and how they need to change. That's pretty typical when you're younger. Whether it's your parents, your friends, or your boyfriend. There is always something they can do better and is frustrating why they can't understand your perspective.

It's only been in the past several years that I've started checking myself during a disagreement. I've paused to step back and evaluate the situation and ask questions. Am I overreacting? How would I feel if I was in his shoes? Could I have handled this better?

The Running Funk

Lately, I'm really struggling with running. And it's PISSING. ME. OFF.

Last year when I was doing it regularly a few times a week, I was loving it. I felt great physically. Each time it got a little bit easier, and I enjoyed working my way up in distance and speed.

I got to get outside, breathe some fresh air, and get my heart pumping.

Also, the mental benefits were fabulous. I had time to myself to reflect on things, or work through any concerns. It also gave me crazy endorphins that filled me with energy and happiness for the rest of the day.

I felt like Super Woman.

Why Nice Guys Finish Last

So guys are always complaining that women like the "bad boys" and that the "nice guys" of the world always finish last. Or, don't finish at all and get put in the friend zone.

While I don't agree that all women like boys with a bad streak, I do get the idea here. If guys are too nice, girls can be turned off. But if men are a bit mysterious, even rude, girls are intrigued.

Why is that? Why do women constantly complain about how men are assholes but choose to overlook the good guys anyway?

While I realize this is a complete generalization, here's my theory...

I don't think it's about IF you're a nice guy, I think the key is WHEN you're the nice guy.

Hear me out...

You Look Like an Idiot

Three years ago yesterday, I met Tim for the first time.

We were at a UK football tailgate hosted by a mutual friend. It was a blazing hot day and if anyone knows me, they know I don't like the heat.

So, this was my set up on said day...

Oh am I so glad I have a picture documenting this day and what I was doing.

Because it was when I popped open that big red umbrella amongst a sea of blue in 80+ degree weather, did Tim turn to me and say the first words he ever said to me.

9 Childhood Things I Refuse to Quit

9 Childhood Things I Refuse to Quit...

My little nugget niece rockin my shades :)

1. Eating Fruit Loops for breakfast. They are good OK?

2. Cutting the corn off the cob. You know when you are little and have no front teeth? So then mom cuts the corn off so you can eat it. But, there's something about those little chunks of kernels off the cob that tastes so yummy!

Get Fit ~ September Goals

Oh August. I had set some lofty goals but I'm going to have to chalk that one up as a loss. A combination of intense traveling, a stomach bug, and lame excuses made August an epic fail.

My goals were:

Rottweilers Love Water

I'm sure many of you have seen the viral video of the Rottweiler who loves to take showers...

So precious! She would sit in there all day if they let her!

I've read a lot about Rotties and it seems loving water is in their DNA.

Well... there is always the exception to the rule, isn't there?

Exhibit A... my Rottweiler:

Guess Bear will never be a famous YouTube Rottie.
