The Attendee Experience

This past week was an interesting experience for me. As you know, I plan corporate meetings. Well, this week I went to Nashville and attended The Special Event 2014. For the first time, I was the ATTENDEE and not the planner. It was so bizarre traveling to a meeting with no stress over details or frantic emails/calls. It was also a bit humbling because I was now the attendee asking questions, looking at a map as I wandered aimlessly around, and checking the schedule over and over again. It's ironic that meeting planners can be just as helpless as the attendees who frustrate us.

But, all in all it was a great time. I attended many sessions and learned a LOT. They also had an exhibit show, so I was able to get a bunch of vendor contacts and new ideas for decor, entertainment, etc. It was held a Gaylord Opryland resort which is HUGE and beautiful. Despite the sub zero temperatures, it was a good experience overall. Here are some pics from the week...

Got to learn from some really exciting people like those who plan for Warner Brothers, the Grammys, CMAs, etc.

How cute is this little skillet of mac n cheese?

Fun laser light show in the General Session.

Check out these creative table displays that were up for awards...

One of my sessions was a wine workshop. We learned to look, smell, taste, and talk about wine. I don't know if it's because I had a bit of a cold or my taste buds are amateurs but I was just not picking up on these skills like the others. I couldn't smell the fruit or the oak in the glasses. It all spelled and tasted like wine. So I just sipped away. Apparently the only thing I know about wine is how to drink it. Oh well, I tried.

Couldn't get a good picture, but did you know the only two patented colors are Tiffany Blue and Veuve Champagne? And they happen to go great together!

Forgot my curling iron so I had to rock the curled-with-a-straightener hair. I'm becoming a pro!

Went downtown one night to The Big Bang, dueling piano bar. It was a Wednesday so there were only about 15 people in the audience, but it was still SO much fun! They are so talented and amazed me with how many songs they know. I got their information and am seriously considering flying them out to perform at one of our events this year.

Can't wait to use some of the new tips and tricks I picked up and get creative with our next event in April! San Antonio, here we come!

TGIF! Have a great weekend!
