The Healthy Lifestyle

If you visited Kaliwood two weeks ago you know that I had some health tweaks I was putting into effect upon our return from Jamaica. I was honestly so excited to get these started since the last few months have been sluggish and discouraging. 

I'm finding it's pretty easy to order water everywhere I go instead of Diet Coke. I do find myself craving it during some meals because it seems to make them taste better. But I no longer have the headaches from lack of caffeine. Added bonus - all my meals have been cheaper without the soft drink charge!

We went to Kroger yesterday and I bought my bananas and granola bars for breakfast each day at work (no more sugary cereal). Do you all recommend any healthy granola bars? As long as they are granola and chocolate, I'll probably like it. I wasn't sure on the best ones, so I bought Fiber One 90 calorie bars. Had one this morning and it was good!

Bought lunch stuff at Kroger as well. Three times a week I plan to eat what I packed:

  • Superfood Salad - Kroger
    • (kale, broccoli, lettuce, carrots, cashews, edamame, blueberries, sunflower seeds, etc.)
  • Balsamic Tortellini Pasta Salad - Kroger
  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Sometimes I throw in a string cheese

The two days I'm not eating the above I plan to get my Jimmy Johns sandwich without chips and eat a fruit or veggie as a side.

So, the eating is going well so far. I have to say, after a light meal I just feel SO much more energetic versus a very full, fattening meal that makes me want to take a nap under my desk. I still crave lots of unhealthy foods, but like I said, these are baby steps.

In #roadtorecovery news, I ran about .80 yesterday and the foot was feeling OK today so I went out at lunch and did about .75. Hoping I can do that all week and start going further next week!!

  2. Good for you! Keep making little changes and it will get so much easier. I've noticed that my cravings for crappy food mostly disappear after a few days without it! But as soon as I have it again, it's all I want. Siiigh, to have a naturally flawless metabolism...
