Before & After: Master Bedroom

Happy October!

I'm finally getting around to sharing the before and after of our master bedroom! The start was bad cream carpet and a hodge-podge of furniture.

Tim and I quickly got to work pulling up the old carpet.

This is a process I never thought I would do, but it's actually quite simple and quick. We did it in the town house before we moved so I knew it would be easy. Just cut 4 feet wide strips with razor blade, and roll up!

Tim had some fun tossing the rolls over the balcony. I wasn't thrilled with the dust flying everywhere. You can see who won that...

Then Tim's family came into town and got to work laying the hard wood floors!

They had some great furry helpers...

Bear lending a paw...

Once the floors were in we could see it starting to take shape!

And then the finished product...

If you know me at all you won't be shocked at all by my total lack-of-color design. I love all the neutrals.

Also, I have plenty of beautiful throw pillows but let's get serious. Messy people plus pets... throw pillows don't have an ice cube's chance in hell in our house.

The floors are finally finished and beautiful. I love the addition on the plush cream rug to frame the bed.

Tim and I added a chair rail and crown molding. You know, to class up the place.

And yes that says Tim and I. It's actually not that hard to do. And you definitely need two people.

Can I tell you how in love with these lamps I am? I don't know what to call their shimmery finish, but I love it.

We found the end tables, lamp bases and lamp shades at "At Home" (formerly Garden Ridge). I love that you can mix and match lamp bases and shades there to customize your design.

The only downfall to this room is that damn bird painting. I don't like it. It's just currently the only thing we have that is an appropriate size for that space. I have searched long and hard for just the right art piece and I am yet to find it. I want something neutral (shocking) with a punch of color. And if it's going to have color it needs to be BOLD! Also, this room is simple/sleek with traditional touches. That painting is too "homey". Any ideas are welcome!

Editors note: Any fellow dog owners know this room looked like this for about 2.3 seconds until the pictures were snapped and the door was opened. It still sort of looks like this... in theory. Just a bit more disheveled and with an additional pound of hair everywhere.

Onto the next project!

  1. Your house makes me feel like I'm in my 19 year old apartment.

  2. Looks great! The finish on the lamps is probably a faux mercury glass. It's one of my favorite finishes!
