A Complete Shoe Collection With Only 8 Pairs

Hello, Kaliwood lovelies. Your resident shoe fanatic here. Did I tell you that I recently cleaned out my closet and donated over 25 pairs of shoes?? Shocking, I know. I needed to make room for new shoes reduce some clutter. But going through my entire shoe collection, I sort of had an epiphany.

I thought about how many of my shoes fulfilled the same purpose. Lately, I'll get dressed, then look for some shoes to pair with my outfit, and see that I have about 5 potential options. All that will look great with my #OOTD. But wouldn't it just be easier to have 1 or 2 options? You could spend less money and get out the door faster!

So, I decided to come up with a strategy. For how you can put together an entire shoe collection - and I mean having a shoe that will go with any outfit - with only 8 pairs! Here goes nothing...

I chose to pick 6 different factors that, when combined, cover all the necessary categories of shoes that make up a basic collection.

10 Things I Will Never Understand

1. Dog food commercials

I don't understand why they feel the need to showcase the food up close, in bright lighting.. sometimes falling from the sky... like we, as humans, will think it looks appetizing. People.. I don't care to SEE how scrumptious dog food looks because... I'm not going to find it scrumptious!! Just tell me how it's healthy and what's in it .. throw in a cute dog... and you're done.

2. Emails about travel deals.

I don't understand emails that show you discounted flights from one city to another. But none of the departing cities are near you. How is this helpful? Not everyone lives in NYC or LA, Travelocity.

Positive Juju Greatly Appreciated

Hellooooo Kaliwood residents. Today I'm thinking back to a particular date. February 18th to be exact. On that day I went out for a run (after not running for a week) and felt like a BAMF. I was running and I just couldn't stop. Wouldn't stop. Until I ran further than I ever ran.

I did run further than I ever had. I went 4.49 miles and proceeded to brag about it here. (Isn't it a great thing about blogging that not only can you look back at your proudest moments but you also have loads of evidence of when you fall on your face?)

Leading up to February 18th I was running regularly, had tons of energy, was in high spirits and was loving posting about all my different experiences as a "runner". I was on cloud 9.

Two days after said accomplishment, on February 20, I couldn't walk. My foot hurt so terribly bad that I was limping around the office. I'm sure you all know, since I complained about it here frequently, but I was out of commission at that point with a stress fracture.

Spring Nails That Don't Make Me Cringe

If you know me, you know I hate color. OK, hate is a strong word but I seriously struggle with incorporating color into my wardrobe, my home, and my nails. I'm just a neutral girl. I'm happiest in my black, tans, white, cream, gray world.

All that is fine and dandy in the fall and winter. I can rock the really deep purples/navys/grey or even black polish and it's all OK. But when spring time rolls around I panic. There is nothing that makes me cringe more than bright bubble-gum pink nails.

Now, on my toes, I'm a little more courageous. You'll see a vibrant orange or coral on those bad boys come beach time. But when it comes to manicures, I want something chic. I don't want to look like a 6th grader. So, here are some spring nails I've rocked lately that don't make this color-phobe cringe.

I started off the Spring getting my nails done at the salon. Gel polish is the way to go because it's damage proof as soon as you exit the salon and lasts a good 2 weeks without chipping.

A Graduation & A Giveaway

Hey Kaliwood residents! Sorry I've been a little MIA over the past week. My blog inspiration level was at an all time low and I was busy out living life. And #sorrynotsorry, but life always trumps the blog.

This past weekend was spent in WV celebrating my bf's sister's graduation from college! In just a few short weeks she packs up her stuff and moves in with us in Lexington! I'm so excited for her to start her career and have another female in the house - yay!!

Here are a few pics from the weekend. And don't touch that remote.. because there is some cash money at the end of this bad boy!!

Piper wasn't feeling too hot on the ride to WV, which was evidenced by the fact that she let me put these on her head long enough to take a picture. That. never. happens. Poor thing.

The Wedding Mosquito

A few months ago I got bit by the wedding bug. I cringe as I type this because it wasn't a beautiful butterfly sent by cupid, but a big ugly mosquito that bit hard and pumped lots of crazy into me.

See, a lot of people I knew were getting engaged. Everywhere I turned, there were rings on Facebook and our mailbox was getting inundated with wedding invitations and save-the-dates.

I didn't even realize I got the itch... but soon I was scratching.

I was talking about rings and wedding locations and bridal parties and guest size. All the while scaring the pants off of my boyfriend. At that time we had just reached our 2 year mark. I wasn't demanding a ring by any means but I definitely had the fever and he noticed.

5 Lessons in 5 Days

They says you should learn something new everyday, right? Well here's 5 things I've learned over the past week....

1. PMS is a real biotch. Or maybe the more realistic moral to the story is that things that SEEM like a huge deal, and are fought about like a huge deal, often are not.

Saturday was not a good day in our household. We tried to go to Kroger TWICE and both times had to turn around because we started fighting about something stupid and couldn't stand to be around each other. It was like the anger where you imagine steam coming out of your ears and you just want to punch your boyfriend in the face - kind of mad.

But after a drink and chat with an old friend, some s'mores by the fire, and a new day, you realize it's not worth it to fight over stupid things. I started dating Tim because I liked his sarcastic, dry humor. So I need to remember he's JOKING most of the time. It's a good reminder not to take myself too seriously.

2. I now know how mothers feel when their kids go from loving children, to "too cool" teenagers. And I discovered this ON Mother's Day.

This boy....

Celiac Suitcase

Hey guys! I'm so excited for this post today because it's brought to you by one of my favorite ladies! Allow me to explain..

This goober here, is Danny, aka Dan the Man...

Danny is my cousin and we've always been really close. He grew up in New York, I grew up in Kentucky, but we've always had a special relationship. We just get each other. (Or rather, put up with each other.) He's a short, spunky Yankee who talks funny and I'm his younger, TALLER cousin who likes to give him crap. :)

Now Danny lives in DC and recently got married to Joanna! And boy, can he pick 'em! Because Joanna is awesome-sauce. It's possible we were sisters separated at birth. I hate that they still live so far away but I think they are going to visit us here sometime soon!!

Like I said, Joanna is awesome. How can I tell she's awesome? Among a bazillion other reasons...she has Celiac Disease and handles it like a pro! Last time we were all together, I bombarded her with questions because I was so curious! (Or I'm just nosey...) The point is.. this girl is a rock star because if I had to jump through all the hoops she does just to go out for dinner.. I would be a Miserable Martha. But J is great.. and here she is to tell you about her story... and her new blog!

Warby Parker

Have you all heard of Warby Parker? I recently found out about them when I complimented my friends new glasses and they were from WP! She told us all about them, and then Tim got a new pair from them as well! There are some unique things that make WP awesome... but first and foremost is that they are AFFORDABLE and STYLISH! Glasses and sungalsses trends come and go so frequently! With WP you can get a new pair for literally a fraction of the cost at your typical eyeglass store... and they are so chic! So... really... you could just get a couple pairs - one for every occasion.. and still get a steal!

Weekend Wrap Up

This weekend started out having no set plans.. but ended up being quite busy!

Saturday morning Tim went fishing for a bit and I went to run some errands. I updated my gel manicure and got all white for the first time. I'm always conflicted when it's summer because I love the dark neutral tones that are great in fall and I really don't like the bright spring/summer colors. But I had seen some cool all white manicures on Pinterest and figured I'd give it a try.

The rest of Saturday was spent going through both guest room closets and the bonus room. We've been using all of them as storage but it was time to go through everything and purge/organize. Tim's sister is moving in with us in about a month so we needed to get her space cleared out!

It's nice because one of our guest rooms has a bonus room attached to it, so we are going to set it up as a living space for her with couch/tv so it'll be like she has her own apartment.

I should have taken some pictures but forgot. We took 2 HUGE truck loads to Goodwill. I'm talking dresser, bookshelf, dresser, TONS of clothes, and about 25 pairs of shoes.

Yes, I got rid of 25 pairs of shoes. I probably could have sold them and made a good chunk of money but I just wanted to purge and get things OUT of the house. It feels so good to be that much "lighter" and have things look so organized! It's a pain to do it but it's always worth it!

Saturday night I met up with Sarah and Erin who happened to be in town for the Derby! We hit up some downtown Lexington spots and had a blast! It was my first time meeting up with some fellow bloggers and it was so nice to put a face to a blog. These ladies were SO sweet and know how to party - my type of girls!

Ain't Nobody Got Time for That

There are many things in life that we are suppose to do. Many of these we are suppose to do daily. Some for hygiene, some for mental or physical health... But if we were all being honest, we rarely do these things.

Because...

So let's get real....
