Some Thoughts on a Thursday

1. I've decided to start the Harry Potter journey all over again, from the beginning. And by journey, I mean the books. I've only read them through once and it was years ago, before the movies came out. So, I'm in for a long treat!

2. Tim decided last week that he no longer wants to eat any product that comes from a pig. He's disgusted with how many pigs are treated and tortured before slaughtering. It bugs him so much because pigs are extremely intelligent, even more so than dogs. And no animal deserves that.

After some thought, I've decided to join him in this effort. It feels nice to take a stand for something. Even if we won't make much of a difference, it feels good to not contribute to the issue.

Ham and pork will be pretty easy for me. But, I do love bacon and pepperoni, so those will be tougher to let go.

3. I'm starting to think of Christmas gifts for the people in my life. I like to try to buy a couple things here and there early so I don't have a huge cost in December.

Can you believe we are already halfway through October?? I certainly can't.

4. I'm going hunting this weekend, for the first time ever. I'll take a moment to let that sink in for you.

I guess it would be more appropriate to say that I'm going to attempt hunting this weekend. It's muzzle loader season which is this type of gun that you have to shove a stick into to load (reminds me of an old school cannon), so you really only get one shot (literally).

But that's not the only issue I'm going to have. The very sport of hunting is designed in a way that goes against most of my interests. For example, I dislike quiet, nature, boredom and I am scared of the dark. So... I highly doubt I'm going to enjoy walking in the words before the sun comes up to sit in a tree all day without talking.

And then there's the whole idea of being able to pull the trigger on a live animal...

So, yea. I'm expecting this to be my first and last attempt at hunting. But, we shall see.

(And for those of you wondering - we eat all of the meat from the deer or we donate it to a family in need.)

5. In honor of Throwback Thursday, I'll share this picture of my parents that was recently sent to me. (Circa the 70's I'm assuming.) Everyone knows my sister looks like my mom and I've always been the outcast in the family. So, what's crazy is that I look exactly like my mother in this picture. That's my exact profile. Guess I'm not adopted after all.

6. My thoughts have been going out to Kelly over at Southern Shrinking Yankee (formerly Miss MP). She's been brave sharing her current health scare and I just hope she finds some answers soon.

Before you go...Today's the last day to enter to win the $100 Victoria Secret giftcard over on Instagram. So enter while you still can!

That's all, folks. Is it Friday, yet?

Linking up with April for Thursday Thoughts.

  1. When my husband and I drove through Nebreska, it made it really hard to eat pork. There was several pig farms and it was disgusting. I totally see why Tim would think that.

I listened to the whole Harry Potter series last year for the first time since 2007. I had forgotten so many details, especially with Goblet of Fire and Half-Blood Prince.

  2. I buy all my christmas gifts early if possible too! No sense being out of so much $$ in December. :)
