Love Makeup? How To Get Involved In The Industry!

The big wide world of makeup seems far more accessible in this day and age, what with the amount of tutorials you can find online. Suddenly, girls with no training at all are finding ways to do their makeup like MUAs, and they look absolutely incredible! Some people berate people who love makeup, but there’s nothing wrong with it. Makeup can help with confidence, self esteem, and it’s a lot of fun! If you love makeup and you’re thinking about getting into the industry, here’s some advice that will help you:

Use Free Resources Available to You
There are a ton of free resources available to you. You can find free online courses, and even just YouTube tutorials that can teach you so many techniques and methods. Make the most of these resources and learn as much as you can. You won’t have a qualification, but they could very well save you some money and help you to broaden your horizons when it comes to the makeup industry.

Stay Ahead of the Trends and Techniques
Getting involved in the makeup industry means staying ahead of the trends and techniques that are being used. Last year it was all about contouring, this year there’s more of a focus on highlighting, or strobing. Staying ahead of these techniques will give you an edge, and may even make people come to you for makeup advice.

Practice on Different People
Doing makeup on yourself is great, but practicing on different people will give you an idea of what really works and on who. If you’re really making the effort to learn new techniques, then people should be happy to volunteer to be guinea pig for you.

Invest in a Quality MUA Course
You’ll need a qualification if you want to be taken seriously. Don’t just do any course though! Anybody can do a short course over a few hours and call themselves a makeup artist. You should invest in a quality MUA course to learn real, professional techniques. Learning things such as special effects makeup can be a huge advantage. You’ll learn so much more about the industry too!

Make Social Media Pages
Create social media pages showcasing your work and advertising your talents. You never know who might see them! Make sure you stay professional, and even try to give advice to your audience if you can. You can really turn yourself into a brand this way, and some artists have even been spotted by celebrities.

Create a Portfolio
You need a real portfolio if you’re going to get jobs, so make an effort to photograph and display your best work. You can show this to potential employers or potential clients if you go freelance. Show off your skills!

If you really want to get involved in the industry, you’re going to need to be determined. You’ll need grit to survive in this competitive industry, so make sure you’re prepared to do what it takes to make it. Keep learning, keep practicing, and don’t give up!
