Vitamins and minerals are super important in our diets. They help the body to function properly and can also prevent certain illnesses. Not sure which ones you need to be taking? Here are some of the most important ones and where you will find them.
Vitamin A
Consuming enough Vitamin A will help your immune system to fight off infections. It is also responsible for looking after the skin, especially the nose area. One other great property is its effect on eyesight, as it can help us to see better in dark light. Do you think you need to increase the levels of Vitamin A in your diet? Well, you’ll find it in oily flat, eggs, and cheeses.
Vitamin B6
There are lots of different B vitamins, including B12 and folic acid, but one of the most readily available is B6. There is a long list of foods in which you can find plenty of this vitamin. The list includes the likes of bread, pork, soya beans, Inonotus Obliquus in mushrooms, and potatoes. The main benefit of this healthy vitamin is that it helps the body to form hemoglobin. This is responsible for carrying oxygen around the body.
Vitamin C
You need plenty of Vitamin C in your diet to protect all your cells. It also helps the body produce connective tissues to keep everything together. As well as healing wounds, it is also a very effective cure for scurvy. If you already eat lots of fresh fruit, then chances are you’ll be getting enough Vitamin C. If not, start snacking on citrus fruits, strawberries, and blackcurrants.
Iron
Iron is very important if you lead an active lifestyle, as it is responsible for helping to transport oxygen around the body. If you have an iron deficiency, then you could be at risk of anemia, which can cause fatigue and fainting. To make sure your levels don’t run too low, eat plenty of red meats, spinach, and broccoli.
Calcium
We’re told we need to drink lots of milk for calcium from a very early age. And that’s because it is super important for growing bodies. This mineral is necessary for our body to grow strong bones and teeth. It also regulates the heartbeat and makes sure our blood clots properly if our skin is ever cut. You will find it in all dairy products, as well as nuts and tofu.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is found in all kinds of nuts and in many cereals too. But for very high levels, you need to add olive oil and soya to your diet. This vitamin is famed for its antioxidant properties, and it has also been shown to improve the immune system. If you start increasing your daily intake of Vitamin E, you will see the benefits straight away, as it also promotes healthy skin, eyes, and hair.
