Getting to and from work is something that not many of us enjoy. From traffic jams to missing your breakfast, it can feel like a constant battle. Not only can it put us in a foul mood, but it can also affect our performance when we get to work. So instead of continuing to hate your commute to work, why not change it for something better. Implementing healthy habits during your commute can make your feel incredible both inside and out. This, in turn, can have a positive effect on your career and your health and well-being. Here are a few ideas that could make you daily commute healthier and maybe even more enjoyable.


Ride a bike to work
Instead of always getting the bus or driving your car, why not ride your bike to work each day. This is a more environmentally friendly way to travel and can save you money on travel expenses such as train tickets and fuel. But more importantly, riding a bike is one of the healthiest modes of transport. It can burn calories, tone your body and get your heart pumping. It’s also an effective way of maintaining healthy joints and improving fitness levels. Before you start cycling to work, plan out a route and do a practise run to familiarise yourself with your bike and the roads. You should also ensure you have cycle insurance and suitable safety equipment to wear when you ride too.


Prepare breakfast the night before
When you’re in a rush to get to work, it can be easy to forget all about breakfast. But this can increase your chances of binge eating on convenience food when you get to work. If you can’t find the time to make yourself a healthy breakfast during the mornings, prepare it the night before instead. This gives you the opportunity to make healthier food choices, which can enjoy on your commute. It can also increase your endurance and make you feel more engaged, which is ideal when you’re just getting to work. You could also prepare a snack for your commute home too. This can prevent you from getting hunger pains and give you the energy you need to get home.


Travel with a friend
A well as keeping your body healthy, it’s also important to keep our mental state in check too. Commuting alone each day can be dull and can even make us feel lonely. Feelings of loneliness are commonly linked with depression, which can then have an effect on our entire being. So why not start travelling with a friend to and from work each day. Perhaps there is someone you work with who lives nearby and doesn’t drive. Ask them if they would like to car share with you or offer to get the train or bus with them. This can stop you both from feeling lonely and makes depression less likely to develop.


Now you know what you have to do, your commute to work can be the perfect way to improve your health. You’ll be surprised at how much of an impact the small changes can have.
