Mind Over Matter: Changing Your Life Through Your Brain

Image result for brain training

People talk about changing their bodies through exercise, but nobody ever talks about changing their brain. Using the mind should be as important as going to the gym or getting in the recommended 10,000 steps daily. With more cases of Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia reported, it is essential that people look after their brain health. But what ways can this be done?

Brain Training
Having a brain training app on a smartphone is a fun way to keep the mind nimble and sharp. And brain training apps can help point out which skills need improving on, such as short-term memory or language.

Take The Right Supplements
People might need to give their mind a tuning up by taking some supplements. There are many supplement brands out now that are gearing to improving cognitive function. But taking any multivitamin is a good start! A few key ones are DHA (an omega 3 fatty acid, more on that shortly), Gingko Biloba and citicoline.

Eat The Right Foods
Having the wrong diet is as bad for the brain as it is for the body! If people aren’t eating the right foods, the body is not getting the proper nutrients. A dietary approach that is beneficial to the brain includes the Mediterranean diet, which is high in nuts, vegetables, olive oil, and fish. Fish has a high amount of omega 3 fatty acids, which reduces brain inflammation. It also builds brain cell membranes and has proven to improve memory as well as reduce chronic illness.
Doctors always tell people to eat their greens because it’s good for us. So for those reading this that are wanting to embark on hospital careers then maybe you should start off by eating well!

Binaural Beats
Something that has come up in recent years which is getting research is binaural beats. To define it, it’s a frequency that sounds like a humming noise. When it is played at certain frequencies, it stimulates the brain in different ways. Certain frequencies have resulted in the ability to have more focus and concentration, and can even stimulate specific tasks like language learning. There are binaural beats available online for free for those that want to try it out.

Meditation
One reason why people don’t function best on a cognitive level is that people have too much stress or anxiety. Meditating has many benefits, but being able to calm the mind is one of the most incredible tools in life. Doing it twice a day for a short period will result over time in increased calmness and focus. It can start to be a real life changer when people become more relaxed and in tune with their mind.

“A mind is a terrible thing to waste” and it is true. When people start to become forgetful or having problems focusing, giving their brain a bit of exercise and feeding it with the things it wants is going to help reverse cognitive issues, and hopefully, prevent any severe conditions in the long term.

Things People Believe About Feminists (And Why They're Wrong)

When there is a movement, there is always a counter-movement. It happens in microcosm, a response to the mildest of things. If the general agreement in the populace is that a particular song is the best by a particular artist, a secondary group will appear purely for the purpose of disagreeing, of applying contrarian practices.

Since its birth at the turn of the last century, feminism has had plenty of counter movements. It began with essential basics of human rights, such as the right to vote - and people argued against that. Then it moved onto the lives of women, right through second and third wave feminism.

Given that feminism has been around so long, it’s to be expected that there are opponents to it. It just so happens that in the last decade, those opponents have become more and more vocal - arguing back against a world where Beyonce stands in front of a “feminism” banner and women begin to see work towards a more equal society. Here’s the thing that happens; here are the counter…

Give Them Plenty Of Exercise First of all, it’s important to make sure that your dog gets plenty of exercise. That doesn’t just entail taking them for a walk every now and then - larger dogs will require a long walk of at least an hour twice a day, which is a really significant time commitment and something that you should consider when you’re deciding what sort of dog to adopt. If you don’t have as much time or if your mobility isn’t quite as good, why not go for a smaller dog like a terrier mix or a chihuahua? You’ll still need to make sure that they get out for plenty of exercise but it won’t be as taxing on you.
