So, You Want To Emigrate To The US For Work?

This is a contributed post, written by Laura Scott.

The United States of America: otherwise known as the land of opportunity. It might not be 100% perfect, but it’s easily one of the best places to build a better lifestyle. As such, it should be no surprise that so many non-American citizens want to live and work in the States.

America is very accommodating for working immigrants, and it is the perfect location to work and live. However, foreign citizens should be aware of the necessary steps needed to make the most of those opportunities. If you are hoping to live the American dream at some point in the future, a little strategic planning will serve you well.

Of course, no two people are the same, and some factors will be unique to you. Nevertheless, these basic elements should serve you well.

Want A Career, Not A Job

America is undoubtedly one of the best countries to carve out a career. But the word career needs to be your focus. It's no good wanting to emigrate for the sake of a standard job.

Equipping yourself with a genuine plan of action is vital. Whether it’s following a pathway into chemistry or becoming a building surveyor doesn’t matter. The key is that you know exactly what you want from life. After all, you can’t possible chase the dream if you aren’t blessed with a vision.

Even if the first step of your career is to get back into education, building your skills and expertise will make you a far greater candidate. And this will go a long way to helping you with the next point too.

Find The Vacancy

You can’t just arrive in America with the hope of wanting to land a career. Incoming migrants need to obtain the necessary documentation to work. The best way to achieve this is through having a job lined up before arrival.

Understanding the benefits and limitations of U.S. work visas will give you far greater insight into the matter. Meanwhile, you need to perfect your CV and applications so that you stand out when applying for vacancies in your chosen field.

The right employer won’t only help you overcome the visa hurdle. But they’ll additionally offer vital support throughout other stages of the onboarding process too. Whether you plan to work in America temporarily on a permanent basis, this can be extremely rewarding.

Don’t Forget Other Aspects

Working in America also means living Stateside too. Therefore, you need to take the necessary steps to ensure that life is comfortable.

Aside from living arrangements, you need to consider medical care and other crucial factors. Moreover, you may want to consider leasing a car or embracing other items to make life a little easier. Most importantly, you need to know the situation regarding your family. It’s not always possible to bring them over, at least not immediately. Once again, researching these elements with the relevant governing bodies is crucial.

The last thing you want to do is jump in at the deep end only to regret your decision. As long as you give careful consideration and plan out the move effectively, that dream can become a reality.

Career Goals: Could You Turn A Hobby Into A Full-Time Job?

This is a contributed post, written by Laura Scott.

For many of us, our career dreams center on doing something we love and getting paid for it. If you have creative talents, or you’re tired of doing a job you find uninspiring, why not turn a hobby into a career? More and more people are choosing to work from home and become their own boss. Could this be your next career step?

Practical considerations
Before you take the plunge and hand in your notice, there are some important practical considerations to bear in mind. You may be incredibly excited about the prospect of pursuing your dreams, but is your goal viable? Do you have the necessary skills to make things work? Are you equipped to start your own business financially? Do you know what path you’re going to take?

Giving up a full-time job is a risk. You could be missing out on regular paychecks for a prolonged period of time. Do you have savings or a nest egg to help you get by? Do you have the credentials to get a loan if you don’t have savings set aside? If you’re thinking of applying for a loan, make sure you have a solid business plan ready and waiting. You’ll need to convince the lender that your plan is sound, and your business will make money. It may be beneficial to see a business consultant or a financial adviser before you submit a plan.

Getting started
It’s likely that you’ll need to invest in equipment to propel your hobby to the next level. If you’re a photographer, you may need a better camera or some professional development software. If you enjoy glassblowing, for example, you may need to order safety equipment, torches, and burners. Contact firms like Chemglass for advice. When you’re converting an interest into a career, you may benefit from wholesale prices and bulk buy deals.

You may also need to think about business premises. Do you need a specific type of space, such as a laboratory or a studio? Or could you run your business from home in the short-term? If you’re able to work from home, this will reduce your start-up costs.

Getting your name out there
To succeed, you’ll need people to buy your products or services. You’ll need to take steps to get your name out there, and increase interest in your business. There are many ways you can do this. Develop a marketing strategy. Organize an exhibition if you’re an artist, carpenter or glassblower. Put on a concert if you’re a musician or a singer. Upload examples of your work to websites, and embrace social media. Set up pages and profiles and post regular updates. Encourage people to share them and you’ll soon build up your contact list. Put flyers through doors, and adverts in local stores. Find out about festivals and events in your area and ask about running a stall or displaying your work. If you do get a slot, you can invite followers by setting up an event page on social media sites.

Sometimes, to achieve happiness and career success, you have to take risks. If you dream of turning your hobby into a full-time job, you may encounter difficulties. You may struggle for money initially, and you’ll have to work hard. But if you put in the hours and make the right decisions, you can get there. Good luck!

Road Trip Advice That Will Make Your Adventure More Awesome!

This is a contributed post, written by Laura Scott.

There is nothing better than a road trip with a group of people that you love. The sights, the sounds, and the experience are second to none. It certainly beats sitting on a beach and sipping cocktails all day. Still, you should never just assume that you are going to have an awesome time. Yes, the trip is bound to be enjoyable, but it could be even more so with a little bit of effort. Here are the tips that will turn your road trip into the holiday of a lifetime.

Keep Your Car Clean
The vehicle of your choice is going to be your home for the next couple of weeks. In fact, you might end up sleeping in it at some point! It is important then that you treat it with respect. No one wants to spend five hours a day sitting in a smelly car. The uncleanliness of your vehicle can take away from your experience because it makes you less excited to go out and about. Plus, it will cost you if it is a hire car and you can’t get rid of the smell! Try and keep it clean from the beginning of the journey until the end.

Form A Loose Plan
Road trips are about exploring the environment and coming across things that you never knew existed. No one wants to take that away from you, but it is worth pointing out that you need a plan of some kind. Otherwise, you will miss some of the most exciting and famous attractions. Also, you need to manage your time wisely. Most roadtrippers don’t have an unlimited amount of time to travel. If you are one of those people, you have to fit as much in as possible within your timeframe. The only way to do that is to have a loose plan of your journey.

Invest In A Safety Net
Not a literal safety net, but a metaphorical one! Sometimes, your plan won’t go to plan. When it happens, you need a backup plan so that you aren’t vulnerable. Take your accommodation as an example. You might not be able to find a room to sleep or sleep in your car. So, what would you do in that situation? If you had a tarp tent or any tent, you could pitch it up and sleep under the stars. A tent costs a few dollars, but it makes a massive difference. Obviously, you can’t cover every possible scenario, which is why you need a generic safety net. Luckily, you have one in the form of money. As long as you have a universal currency in your back pocket, you can get out of any situation. One hundred US dollars is a good place to start.

Join A Roadside Rescue Service
The car will break down at some point if you drive it over long distances. It is just an occupational hazard of owning a car. When it does, you don’t want to have to stand by the roadside fiddling with parts you don’t understand. Instead, you want to ring an emergency number and have someone get you going again. With this in mind, consider joining a national roadside service. It will cost you extra, but it will come in handy at some point.

My Favorite New Boutique ~ Blue Clover {& A Giveaway!}

I'm so happy to share with you my new favorite boutique (and what I assure will be yours as well)! Blue Clover was started by my dear friend I've known since birth - literally - and I'm so proud of her for making this dream a reality! It's not easy to take that leap, to invest your time and money into something you're passionate about and hope it sticks. Well I can say Blue Clover is already such a success.

My first experience with their clothing was a call from my mother who was at one of their pop-up events. I was on the treadmill at the gym and was ordering via over-the-phone mom descriptions. I pretty much said YES to everything she suggested and hoped the sizing would be right.

Well a few days later when I got my pieces, I was totally impressed. Not only were the clothes reasonably priced, the quality was fantastic. They also nailed it with the sizing, all 4 shirts and cardigan fit like a glove.

My favorite things about Blue Clover, besides how well these pieces are made, is that shipping is always FREE, which is a must for my online buying experiences. I also love that these are unique finds. I know when I'm wearing Blue Clover that my coworker isn't going to show up in the same outfit. And it's nice that every time I've worn one of my tops, multiple people have asked where they could get them!

If you're looking for high quality clothing for truly affordable prices, this is your one-stop shop. And, I know I'm biased, but I can guarantee your customer service will be top notch, because the women behind Blue Clover are professional, smart, and passionate about this store!

Here's a little more about Blue Clover and why they do what they do...

"Blue Clover was born out of an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion to shop for affordable fashion!   We have made that dream a reality and want to share it with you. We at Blue Clover target to deliver you attractive clothing that is affordable, comfortable and easy to wear.  Like all of you, we too are busy women and understand the demands on your time. Our mission is to sell women’s clothing that is quick and easy while achieving that fashionable look we all enjoy and feel confident wearing."

Here are some of my favorites..

I've gotten SO many compliments on this cardy. I love the neutral pattern and how the neon really POPS. And it's SO comfortable!

How perfect is this for 4th of July?

Just put pom poms on anything and I'll want it!

I love this top. I wear it to work under a cardigan!

How To Supplement Your Fitness Training Effectively

This is a contributed post, written by Laura Scott.

In many cases, when fitness training isn’t going so well, it isn’t because of the training itself. You might be doing all the right things when it comes to exercising, but you aren’t supplementing it properly. I have seen this time and time again, and it’s something that is always neglected by amateur fitness enthusiasts. Supplementing your training requires you to consider a number of things, which we’re about to discuss.

First of all, I’m sure you’re aware that fitness and healthy eating go together. You could be doing all the exercise in the world, but if you’re still consuming large amounts of junk food, there’s not much point. Sure, it’ll make you feel better, and it’ll tone your body to a point, but it’s a bit like undoing all that effort that you’ve put in. If you’re struggling with healthy eating, all you need to do is search for a bunch of tips online. Ideally, you want to create a healthy eating plan that you can adhere to on a daily basis. Then, the temptation to cheat won’t be as prominent.

While we’re on the subject of plans, we’re going to discuss fitness plans. You might be getting out there on a regular basis and getting fit, but having a plan is place is beneficial. It encourages you to do the right amount of exercise that will get you fit in the right ways. You’ll be able to improve different parts of your body rather than focusing on one specific area, too. Again, it’s another great way of ensuring that you don’t skip anything or cheat on the schedule.

pexels-photo-28054.jpg

Of course, fitness training can become very boring if you’re not having fun. If you’re self-disciplined, that’s one thing, but many of us aren’t very good at this. If you’re struggling to remain motivated, find ways to have fun! Sure, you could do a small amount of fitness training, but then go and play sports in the park as a reward! It’s still great exercise, and it won’t feel like a burden because you’ll be having so much fun. You don’t have to limit it to park games, either. Join a group that practices anything from taekwondo to archery -- whatever you do is beneficial!

Finally, if you want to supplement your training effectively, you must make time to rest! Resting is incredibly important when you’re pushing your body to the limit. By this, I mean sleeping for the right amount of hours every night. It doesn’t stop there, though. You also need to make sure you’re taking rest days. I know that sounds detrimental to your progress, but it really isn’t. Your body has to have time to recover, or you’ll just be damaging it instead of improving it. Rest when your plan encourages it, or you could end up dealing with negative effects as a result.

Having the motivation to improve your fitness is excellent. Now, all you need to do is supplement it in the right fashion. Do this, and you should be on your way to a fit and healthy lifestyle.

Getting Into Even Better Shape Is Possible

This is a contributed post, written by Laura Scott.

Your body might be in good shape - trim, toned and fit, but is it possible to get into even better shape? Of course, it is, there are always changed you can make to boost your levels of health and fitness even more. We only get one body, so taking care of it is essential.

The better shape you’re in, the less prone to problems you will be as you age. From diabetes to joint problems like arthritis, being in good shape can help to keep your body healthy for longer.

The question is, how can you get into better shape than ever before? It’s not just about changing one aspect of your life, like what you’re eating, it’s about making a variety of changes.

healthy bod.jpg

Start your day right
So your fitness regime says you need to be up by six each morning, but more often than not you don’t get up until six thirty. This means that every day you’re sacrificing half an hour of precious workout time. Move your alarm clock across the room, so that when it goes off, you have no choice but to get up. Go to bed at a reasonable time, else no matter when you get up, you’ll be exhausted. Lastly, be realistic about your morning workout schedule. Yes, you want to do as much as you can, but an overly ambitious plan can put you off of working out as there’s too much to do.

Take advantage of supplements
Supplements are little tables packed with goodness. There are supplements for everything, from boosting your metabolism to increasing your nutrient intake. There are things like cenegenics that help to keep you healthy as you age. There’s bee pollen that boosts energy. There’s Biotin for healthy skin. Basically, there’s something for almost everything. If you want to get into the best shape of your life, take advantage of supplements.

Prepare meals in advance
The odd takeaway or ready meal might not kill you, but it will damage your body. The fat content in just one takeaway or ready meal can be extremely high. That’s why, instead of opting for fast food on those nights you can’t be bothered to cook, it’s best to prepare meals in advance. Set aside one afternoon a week to use to cook meals for the week. These can then be frozen, so that no matter what, you’ve got lots of healthy, nutritious meals to eat.

Cut workout times
This might seem like an odd one, but it works a treat. Instead of increasing your workout times, cut them. That’s right, reduce how long you’re working out for. Why? Because when you cut your workout times, this means you’re able to exercise at a more intense pace. Instead of jogging for an hour, run for half an hour. This increase in pace will speed up how quickly your body is burning fat and getting in shape. For a fast paced workout, give Crossfit a try.

Hopefully, these tips will come in handy when it comes to getting your body into even better shape.

Modern Relationships: The Differences

This is a contributed post, written by Laura Scott.

The world is constantly changing and adapting, and relationships are no different. Gone are the days where women had to do as they were told, today relationships are much more liberal. At least, in most of the world they are. As gender roles have changed and developed, so have relationships. This doesn’t mean that chivalry is dead, as lots of people believe, it just means that relationship expectations have changed. As has how we treat one another.
Want to know more about the difference in modern day love and relationships compared to the past? Then keep reading to find out all about how relationships have changed over the years.
Dating or should it be ‘courting’?
dating couple.jpg
‘Courting’ is an outdated word for dating. It means to be romantically involved with someone you will soon marry. This is a very archaic concept and one that no longer exists. Just because you date someone no longer means that you are committed to marrying them. Most dates used to be set up by families, and all dates had to be approved of, else dishonor would be brought on the family. Yes, really!
Today, dating is entirely different. We can date whoever we like. We can choose to date one person or multiple people. Very few relationships are now set ups. Instead, people meet each other while out or via internet dating. The rise of online dating has been the single biggest thing to shake up the dating scene. Today, almost 40 percent of couples meet online; that’s almost half of all relationships.
Engagements have changed significantly Traditionally, the man would ask for the permission of his partner’s father for her hand in marriage. He would then choose a ring, get down on one knee and pop the question, so to speak. Today, however, there’s a big difference. Some people do choose to ask their partner’s parents for permission, but most don’t.
The biggest change to engagements has to be the proposals themselves. They’re no longer a conservative affair over a candlelit dinner, oh no, proposals are becoming more and more creative every day. From proposals mid-air, while skydiving to malls of people breaking out in song to help pop the question, there’s no limit to how creative you can be. Then there’s the ring - lots of people now choose to allow their partner to pick their ring once they’ve proposed. They browse sites like Your Diamond Guru together, and go ring shopping as a couple, to ensure that the ring is as perfect as possible.
Marriage and children
wed.jpg
Where to start with this one? When it comes to marriage itself and children, so much has changed. 50 years ago, as soon as a couple were married, they were expected to try for a baby. Today, that’s no longer the case. A lot of couples choose to put their careers first and have children later in life. Mothers are no longer expected to stay at home and raise the children - they can if they want to, they have the choice to work. Every aspect of marriage has changed, from the expectations to how married couples live.
Just like everything else, over the past few decades, a lot has changed when it comes to relationships.
